Basketball Recap: Woodbridge Comes Up Short

Woodbridge was the 52-46 winner over Irvine when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Woodbridge Warriors fell 51-41 to the Irvine Vaqueros on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Vaqueros are ranked 105th).

It was another big night for Cooper Stearns, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 boards for Irvine. Stearns' evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Dal, who posted ten points.

Woodbridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Irvine, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodbridge will challenge St. Margaret's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodbridge is facing St. Margaret's at the right time seeing as St. Margaret's is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Irvine, they will face off against Portola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Irvine is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season.
