Baseball Game Preview: West Franklin Falcons vs. Osage City Indians

The West Franklin Falcons are taking a road trip to take on the Osage City Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Franklin has 11 straight victories, Osage City has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, West Franklin earned a 10-5 win over Crest.

Brig Corwine and Gunnar McMahan made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Corwine pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, McMahan struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Corwine got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, while McMahan went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Zeek Dowd was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

West Franklin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Osage City lost 8-2 to Humboldt on Monday.

Osage City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daityn Meek, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

West Franklin's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Osage City, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

West Franklin suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Osage City in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
