Volleyball Recap: River Ridge Timberwolves vs. Potosi Chieftains

After flying high against Cassville on Tuesday, River Ridge came back down to earth. The Timberwolves fell just short of the Potosi Chieftains by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Timberwolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chieftains earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

River Ridge actually scored more points across those five sets (109-107), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 15-25, 25-27, 25-21, 17-15.

Ellaina Gage paced River Ridge's offense, picking up 20 kills. Gage got some help from Mallory Crubel and her 47 assists. Gage was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Kylee Droessler was a one-woman wrecking crew For Potosi. as she had 30 digs and four assists. Those four assists gave Droessler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Eastlick, who had 15 digs and one assist.

River Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Potosi, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, River Ridge and Bangor will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Timberwolves are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Potosi, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Juda on the 21st.
