Basketball Game Preview: Denver Christian Thunder vs. St. Mary's Academy Wildcats

Denver Christian is 4-0 against St. Mary's Academy since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Denver Christian Thunder will take on the St. Mary's Academy Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Denver Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully St. Mary's Academy likes a good challenge.

Denver Christian will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Limon, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Denver Christian blew past Limon 68-31 on Saturday. The Thunder have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.

Denver Christian can attribute much of their success to Kamiree Fuller, who went 7 for 16 en route to 19 points in addition to eight assists and six steals, and Natalie Bohannon, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Bohannon's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Fabiana Genc, who posted a point along with nine boards and five steals.

Denver Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led St. Mary's Academy over The Academy in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that St. Mary's Academy blew The Academy out of the water with a 47-16 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point St. Mary's Academy had established a 25 point advantage.

Denver Christian's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for St. Mary's Academy, their record is now 3-5.

Denver Christian won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, slipping by St. Mary's Academy 47-46. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was St. Mary's Academy's Emily Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Denver Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
