Softball Game Preview: Boise Brave vs. Mountain View Mavericks

The Boise Brave are taking a road trip to square off against the Mountain View Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Boise's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

Boise is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Capital, who was ranked 12th at the time (Boise was ranked 24th). The Brave came out on top against the Golden Eagles by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday.

Kamryn Newbery was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Lily Binford was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Boise hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Mountain View was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They fell just short of Owyhee by a score of 3-1. The Mavericks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Katy Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Boise, their record now sits at 11-6.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Boise hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Boise suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Mountain View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Brave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
