Baseball Recap: Paul Laurence Dunbar Takes a Loss

Paul Laurence Dunbar had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 10-27 to make it seven. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Frankfort Panthers. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Tyler Baker and Teppei Nagano did some serious damage despite the final result: Baker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run, while Nagano went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Frankfort, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Frankfort's side, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Smith has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

Paul Laurence Dunbar does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Frankfort, they will venture away from home to take on Frederick Douglass at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
