Preview: Crossett Eagles vs. Dumas Bobcats
The Crossett Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Dumas Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dumas took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Crossett, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Crossett never let their opponents score. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-0 win over Central. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Crossett had established a 42 point advantage.
It was another big night for Max Brooks, who threw for 247 yards and five touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Taylin Paskel did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 142 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Dumas pushed their score all the way to 32 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of McGehee.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Joseph Jones, who threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Teshawn Henderson, who picked up 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The win makes it two in a row for Crossett and bumps their season record up to 5-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 28.6% over those games). As for Dumas, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Crossett against Dumas in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 35-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crossett since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
