Baseball Preview: Northshore Panthers vs. Covington Lions

The Northshore Panthers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Covington Lions at 6:30 p.m. Northshore will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Northshore scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Hammond as Northshore made off with a 12-1 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Northshore got a great performance from Eli Long as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Northshore let Brody Dukes and David Cantrelle loose on the outfield. Dukes scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Cantrelle went 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Gifford, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Covington had just enough and edged Slidell out 7-6 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Covington.

Northshore's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-15. As for Covington, they pushed their record up to 19-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
