Softball Recap: Rising Sun's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Rising Sun dropped their record down to 17-4 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 16-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Mt. Vernon Marauders by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Shiners couldn't push the score so high this time.

Elaina Titkemeyer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryan Works was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Mt. Vernon, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 26th.

On Mt. Vernon's side, Ameila Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Mt. Vernon's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Barlow, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Rising Sun wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-0 loss against Avon on the 24th. As for Mt. Vernon, they have also already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against West Washington on the 24th.
