Basketball Recap: Irwin County Comes Up Short

Irwin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 65-46 fall against the Turner County Titans. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 53-47.

When it comes to explaining why Irwin County lost, don't look at Aaliyah Austin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 60.9% of Irwin County's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Gordon, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Irwin County's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Turner County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
