Baseball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Chapin Eagles

The Spring Valley Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Chapin Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Valley has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Spring Valley managed to slip by Lugoff-Elgin the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Vikings came up short against the Demons on Thursday, falling 12-3.

Jackson Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Chapin was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against White Knoll by a score of 8-5.

Cooper Derrick looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Drew Greer was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Reese Jolley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Chapin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as White Knoll only managed eight.

Chapin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Spring Valley, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-12.

Spring Valley suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Chapin in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
