Recap: Piedra Vista Panthers vs. Capital Jaguars
The Piedra Vista Panthers posted their biggest victory yet this season on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 58-38 margin over Capital. Given Piedra Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Capital is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Piedra Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyra Holyan, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Holyan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Smith, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Piedra Vista has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Capital, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Piedra Vista will take on Tohatchi at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tohatchi will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Capital, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taos at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
