Baseball Recap: Western Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Western nor Goleman made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Wildcats came out on top against the Gators by a score of 6-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2020.

Alec Hernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Angel Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Western is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Goleman, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-8 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will square off against Somerset Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Goleman, they will challenge Mater Bay Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rays have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
