Basketball Recap: Downtown Doral Falls Despite Big Games from Diego Velazco and Mateo Davila

After flying high against Pinecrest Glades Academy on Wednesday, Downtown Doral came back down to earth. The Dolphins fell just short of the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes by a score of 46-43 on Thursday.

Despite the loss, Downtown Doral had strong showings from Mateo Davila, who went 7-for-16 on his way to 17 points and seven boards, and Diego Velazco, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. Davila's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points.

Downtown Doral dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Booker T. Washington, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Downtown Doral won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Brendan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Dolphins will need to watch out since the Sabres have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Booker T. Washington, they and North Miami will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played.
