Basketball Game Preview: Chesterfield Golden Rams vs. Central Eagles

Chesterfield is 1-9 against Central since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chesterfield Golden Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Central Eagles at 7:45 p.m.

Chesterfield is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Andrew Jackson on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Chesterfield was outmatched by Andrew Jackson and fell 71-38. While losing is never fun, the Golden Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Volunteers are ranked 58th).

Meanwhile, Central waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Wolves as they made off with a 72-46 victory. The Eagles pushed the score to 51-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wolves had little chance of recovering from.

Central's win came from a few key players Chesterfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Crowder, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tazhir Webber, who posted 16 points.

Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Central pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.7 points per game. As for Chesterfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Chesterfield suffered a grim 67-41 defeat to Central in their previous matchup on January 7th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Webber, who scored 19 points and four steals.
