Baseball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Grafton's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Grafton's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Doddridge County Bulldogs. The Bearcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

Carter Gillespie was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Grafton is 9-3 when Gillespie posts two or more runs, but 7-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Newlon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Grafton's defeat dropped their record down to 16-14. As for Doddridge County, their record is now 13-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grafton will take on Ripley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Doddridge County, they will face off against Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
