Recap: Coffeeville Pirates vs. Grenada Chargers

If the Coffeeville Pirates were riding high off their 52-10 takedown of the Strayhorn Mustangs on January 9th, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Coffeeville fell 42-32 to Grenada on Saturday. If Coffeeville hoped to take revenge for the 50-47 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.

Lauren Harges was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds for Grenada. Another player making a difference was Carlei Brown, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.

Coffeeville's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Grenada, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coffeeville will take on Potts Camp at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Potts Camp has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15. As for Grenada, they will be playing at home against Lake Cormorant at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Lake Cormorant is ranked 126th, while Grenada is ranked 113th).
