Clay and Keystone Heights are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Clay Blue Devils will host the Keystone Heights Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
If Clay beats Keystone Heights with 15 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Clay put the hurt on Trinity Christian Academy with a sharp 15-3 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.
Clay got a great performance from Sadie Russo as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Howell and Amiah Carrubba did most of the damage at the plate: Howell went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Carrubba scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. That home run was Howell's first of the season. Kaelye Rouw was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.
Clay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Keystone Heights' offense. They came up short against Baker County on Tuesday, falling 10-0. The Indians have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Keystone Heights now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Clay, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Keystone Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Clay hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. It's a different story for Keystone Heights, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Clay's hitters?
Clay beat Keystone Heights 9-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Clay repeat their success, or does Keystone Heights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
