Basketball Recap: Northside Victorious

Northside hadn't done well against North Forest recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Northside Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the North Forest Bulldogs 53-51. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 53-45 back in December of 2024.

Northside found their leader in sophomore Jerryus Mathews, who posted 22 points. Another player making a difference was Michael Colmenero, who had 12 points and eight boards.

Northside's victory bumped their record up to 5-17. As for North Forest, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Northside and North Forest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Northside will challenge Yates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 1,178 places (1421 vs. 243). Meanwhile, North Forest (ranked 1244th) will meet Washington (ranked 215th) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
