Petal gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They never let the South Jones Braves onto the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Jaley Weathersby, who gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks to keep South Jones off the board. That's the most strikeouts Weathersby has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Layla Brock and Kenzie Cochran did most of the damage at the plate: Brock scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Cochran scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Brock also racked up three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kamryn Lofton was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, South Jones fell to 2-1.

Petal will have a chance to go back-to-back against South Jones: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
