Baseball Recap: St. Johns Picks Up Third Straight Win on the Road

St. Johns hadn't done well against Mogollon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Redskins walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Mustangs. This was a revenge game for the Redskins: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in March, they had to take a 7-1 defeat.

Brennon Leslie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Juan Calderon, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

St. Johns was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in six consecutive contests.

St. Johns' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-11-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Mogollon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Johns will head out to square off against Round Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mogollon, they will venture away from home to face off against Superior at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Mustangs are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
