Basketball Recap: Kevin Gladney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Overton over Memphis East

Overton easily dispatched Kingsbury last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Overton Wolverines fell just short of the Memphis East Mustangs by a score of 46-44 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolverines have suffered against the Mustangs since January 24, 2023.

Overton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kevin Gladney, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Freddy Ards, who posted eight points and five assists.

Overton has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Memphis East, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overton will head out to square off against Memphis Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Overton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season. As for Memphis East, they will head out on the road to take on White Station at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
