Softball Recap: Mariner Triumphs

Mariner's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cape Coral Seahawks a 10-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in February.

Gabi Winters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Tucker, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Rylie Moore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Mariner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Coral only posted a batting average of .125.

Mariner's record is now 11-4. As for Cape Coral, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mariner will welcome Southwest Florida Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The King's will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Tritons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cape Coral, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against East Lee County at 6:30 p.m. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.1 runs per game on average), something the Seahawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
