Softball Game Preview: Perkins Pirates vs. Galion Tigers

The Perkins Pirates will take on the Galion Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Perkins is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Perkins blew Bellevue out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Bellevue got their revenge. The Pirates fell just short of the Redmen by a score of 4-2. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly two runs.

Caden McClellan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Perkins saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Galion came out on top against Pleasant on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Tigers walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Spartans. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won six in a row.

Maddie Beck was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Beck was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Schieber, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Destiny Blue was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Perkins' loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Galion, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.
