Basketball Recap: Mason Cooper's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vermilion over Port Clinton

Vermilion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Port Clinton Redskins. The Sailors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Vermilion lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mason Cooper, who went 5 of 9 en route to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Meyers, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points.

Vermilion's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Port Clinton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vermilion will face off against Huron at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. As for Port Clinton, they and Norwalk will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
