Football Recap: Cedrick West Jr. Leads Fort Wayne Northrop's Defense on Friday

Fort Wayne Northrop dropped down to 6-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 48-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carroll Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bruins of the 48-18 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Fort Wayne Northrop lost, don't look at David Callison. Despite the final result, he threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 44 yards. Kobe Reese was in the mix as well, providing the Bruins with two scores.

Even if they lost, Fort Wayne Northrop's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Cedrick West Jr. was especially locked on to Carroll's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Chargers' side was Dee Hogue, who forced two fumbles, made 12 total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

As for Carroll, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.0 points over those games.

Carroll's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabe Frisinger led the charge by throwing for 313 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 72 yards. Frisinger's passing game has become a key predictor of the Chargers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. Jaidon Vanpelt was another key player, gaining 158 total yards and three touchdowns.

Fort Wayne Northrop and Carroll should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bruins will square off against Fort Wayne Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (48 vs. 216). Meanwhile, Carroll (ranked 22nd) will meet Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (ranked 93rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
