The Wylie Pirates will face off against the Garland Owls at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Wylie blew Rowlett out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Rowlett got their revenge. The Pirates fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 17-14. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Wylie saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Devin Butler, who picked up 197 receiving yards, was perhaps the best of all. With that strong performance, Butler is now averaging an impressive 127 receiving yards per game. Another player making a difference was Daylon Gordon, who gained 75 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Garland faced off against Rowlett last Friday. The Owls lost to the Eagles at home by a 35-20 margin. Despite 164 more yards than the Eagles, the Owls couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Wylie will have to contain Sam Marshall as he made an impact in Garland's last game. He rushed for 125 yards and three scores on only 14 carries. Marshall's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Garland also got help from Caleb Ibeneme, who showed off his sure hands for 119 receiving yards.
Garland's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Wylie, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Wylie has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Garland, though, as they've been averaging only 91.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Wylie against Garland in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 34-7 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
