Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Scarlett Dickson and Alanah Watkins Lead Heide Trask to Victory

Heide Trask had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 21-point drubbing they dealt South Columbus on Friday. The Heide Trask Titans were the clear victor by a 41-20 margin over the South Columbus Stallions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 53-39 back in January.

Leading Heide Trask to victory were Alanah Watkins and Scarlett Dickson. Watkins went 6 of 8 on her way to 12 points and six steals, while Dickson went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Watkins a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Shelby Bradshaw also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Heide Trask smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They pulled down six more offensive boards than South Columbus' also-impressive total of ten.

When it comes to explaining why South Columbus lost, don't look at Karys Townsend. Despite the final result, she posted ten points and eight steals. Townsend is becoming a predictor of South Columbus' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 4-2 (and 1-13 when she doesn't).

The win was the third in a row for Heide Trask, bringing their record for this year to 9-12. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.3 points over those games. As for South Columbus, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Heide Trask didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-32 defeat against East Columbus on the 11th. As for South Columbus, they are taking a road trip to square off against Whiteville at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th.
