Softball Game Preview: Calloway County Lakers vs. Marshall County Marshals

The Calloway County Lakers will venture away from home to square off against the Marshall County Marshals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Calloway County took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Caldwell County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lakers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lakers have posted since March 14th.

Not much got past Hailee Jones, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Caldwell County off the board. Jones has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Calloway County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Laynee Houk, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Houk has posted since back in May of 2025.

Meanwhile, Marshall County got the win against Timberland on Thursday by a conclusive 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Marshals, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Marshall County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Calloway County, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Calloway County might still be hurting after the 15-4 defeat they got from Marshall County when the teams last played back in March. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
