Basketball Recap: Maywood Academy Comes Up Short

Maywood Academy lost against Marquez back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Maywood Academy Nighthawks were beaten by the Marquez Gladiators 62-13. The Nighthawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-10.

Corshell Vaughn was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 24 boards for Marquez. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Magaly Gonzalez, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Maywood Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Marquez, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Maywood Academy will head out to square off against Elizabeth at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Marquez, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Sotomayor at 4:00 p.m.
