Baseball Game Preview: Colfax Vikings vs. Stratford Tigers

The Colfax Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Stratford Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Colfax has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with 17 straight losses, while Stratford will come in with six straight wins.

Colfax is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stanley-Boyd on Tuesday.

Drew Buchner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Grant Cook also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Stratford came out on top against Spencer on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Rockets 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 24th.

Drew Gage was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Riley Spindler was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jack Tubbs, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and one run.

Stratford pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Colfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.
