Baseball Game Preview: Pomfret School Griffins vs. Cheshire Academy Cats

For the second straight game, Pomfret School will face off against Cheshire Academy. The Griffins will head out to challenge the Cats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Pomfret School is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Cheshire Academy on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Cats by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Griffins in their meetings with the Cats: they've now lost five in a row.

For Cheshire Academy's part, C.J. DiBenedetto looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. DiBenedetto has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Chase Mendela was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Crosbie, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Cheshire Academy and bumps their season record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Pomfret School, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
