Basketball Game Preview: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. Franklinton Red Rams

The Rocky Mount Gryphons will take on the Franklinton Red Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rocky Mount comes in on 16 and Franklinton on three.

Last Tuesday, Rocky Mount didn't have too much trouble with Southern Nash as they won 60-41. Given the Gryphons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Firebirds are ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Kira Jones, who went 11-for-21 en route to 26 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Jones is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. ZaNadiyah Harris was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to 13 boards and four steals.

Rocky Mount smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests.

Nash Central typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Franklinton proved too difficult a challenge. They managed a 46-42 win over the Bulldogs.

Rocky Mount's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 43.1 points. As for Franklinton, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

Everything came up roses for Rocky Mount against Franklinton when the teams last played last Tuesday, as the squad secured a 73-25 victory. In that matchup, Rocky Mount amassed a halftime lead of 45-11, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
