Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. Huguenot Falcons
The Powhatan Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Huguenot Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Powhatan fought the good fight in their overtime game against Clover Hill on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 54-51.
Meanwhile, Huguenot's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Midlothian, falling 50-17. While losing is never fun, Huguenot can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while Midlothian is ranked 132nd).
Powhatan's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Huguenot, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Everything came up roses for Powhatan against Huguenot when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 58-25 victory. Does Powhatan have another victory up their sleeve, or will Huguenot turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
