Softball Game Preview: Thomas Sumter Academy Generals vs. Marlboro Academy Dragons

The Thomas Sumter Academy Generals will face off against the Marlboro Academy Dragons at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Thomas Sumter Academy will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Thomas Sumter Academy turned things around against King's Academy on Thursday. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Generals this season.

Kason Carter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lila Kate Stines, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Luzzi, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Thomas Sumter Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Marlboro Academy narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Thomas Sumter Academy 10-9. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dragons.

Marlboro Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Thomas Sumter Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-12.
