Basketball Recap: Ellinwood Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Brynn Widener and Bennett Jacobs

Ellinwood entered their match against St. John on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Ellinwood Eagles took a 49-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. John Tigers. The loss put an end to the Eagles' undefeated start to the season.

Despite the defeat, Ellinwood had strong showings from Bennett Jacobs, who posted 11 points, and Brynn Widener, who earned 11 points. Jacobs continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Reece Stickney was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ellinwood fell to 7-1. As for St. John, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

Ellinwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-42 victory against Macksville on the 17th. As for St. John, they will head out to square off against Larned on January 21st. St. John's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Larned's offense will have their work cut out for them.
