Football Recap: Orem Starts Season with Win at Home

Orem took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 42-12 win over the Granger Lancers. The Tigers pushed the score to 35-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lancers had little chance of recovering from.

Orem's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Oliver Bills, who picked up 49 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 34 yards. That's the most rushing yards Bills has posted since back in August of 2024.

Orem didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Granger to a completion percentage of just 44.4%. The team can thank Brock Hawkins for the heroic effort on defense: he. Orem wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 57.7%.

Orem didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Burnham Sudweeks and Hawkins. Another thorn in Granger's side was Lopeti Matai'Tini Moala Jr. Aka Juni, who picked up six sacks and made eight total tackles.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sunia Fifita, who rushed for 105 yards and one score. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Fifita posted at least 105 rushing yards in the tenth games prior. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobo Kofe, who rushed for 69 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

Orem has already played their next contest, a 34-21 loss against Lone Peak on the 22nd. As for Granger, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 54-19 victory against Logan on the 22nd.
