Softball Game Preview: Reading Memorial Rockets vs. Arlington Spy Ponders

The Reading Memorial Rockets will take on the Arlington Spy Ponders at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Reading Memorial comes in on three and Arlington on four.

Reading Memorial had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Westford Academy on Monday. The Rockets were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the Grey Ghosts. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Arlington beat Arlington Catholic 6-2 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Spy Ponders have won by exactly four runs.

Soline Fisher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ceci Bagnall was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hailey Lucente, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Arlington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Reading Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Arlington, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Everything went Reading Memorial's way against Arlington when the teams last played back in April, as Reading Memorial made off with a 14-3 win. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Spy Ponders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
