Softball Recap: Mt. Gilead Takes a Loss

Mt. Gilead dropped their record down to 3-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 18-2 to the Fredericktown Freddies. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.

Mt. Gilead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Schrote, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Fredericktown, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Fredericktown's side, Kennedy Algire was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Algire posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Fredericktown got a massive performance out of Izabella Ritchie, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Samantha Hughes, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Mt. Gilead has already played their next contest (against Crestline), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fredericktown will be paying especially close attention to the Indians' game: after the Indians face off against Northridge, they'll take on Fredericktown again at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
