Softball Recap: Crystal City Comes Up Short

If Crystal City was riding high fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Dilley last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Javelinas fell 7-2 to the Natalia Mustangs on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Makaela Miramontes was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Miramontes was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Miramontes wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Izabela Tapia, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base. Tapia is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Crystal City has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10-2 record this season. As for Natalia, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-14.

Looking ahead, Crystal City will look to defend their home field on Friday against Hondo at 6:30 p.m. The Javelinas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Owls have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Natalia, they will challenge Cotulla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
