Soccer Game Preview: Bastrop vs. Lake Creek

The Bastrop Bears will take on the Lake Creek Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bastrop's last four games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Bastrop is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Bastrop who was credited with the victory. Bastrop got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Sharpstown's two. Given Bastrop's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Sharpstown are ranked 445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bastrop's one-goal win came courtesy of Cayden Justice, who's now up to ten this season.

Bastrop will be up against a hot Lake Creek team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Lake Creek came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Port Neches-Groves. Kannan Plowden had to tread lightly for part of the match after he was hit with a yellow card, but that was the only trouble Lake Creek got from the refs.

Bastrop's win bumped their record up to 16-1-6. As for Lake Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4-3.

Bastrop was able to grind out a solid win over Lake Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2020, winning 4-2. Does Bastrop have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
