Softball Game Preview: Fountain Valley Barons vs. Los Alamitos Griffins

Fountain Valley is 0-10 against Los Alamitos since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Barons will head out to challenge the Griffins at 3:15 p.m. Fountain Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Los Alamitos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Fountain Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Corona del Mar on Thursday as they made off with a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Courtney Kols looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fountain Valley got a massive performance out of Kileigh Villalobos, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Villalobos a new career-high. Sam Sameshima was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

Fountain Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Los Alamitos sidestepped Marina for a 6-4 victory.

Los Alamitos' win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-12. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Fountain Valley, their record is now 14-11.

Fountain Valley might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Los Alamitos in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Barons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
