Baseball Game Preview: Wheelersburg Pirates vs. Eastern Warriors

The Wheelersburg Pirates will venture away from home to face off against the Eastern Warriors at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wheelersburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Wheelersburg will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Northwest on Friday. The Pirates never let the Mohawks get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Ean Conn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Conn was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brady Doss was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Picklesimer, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Eastern's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost 12-0 to Valley. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Wheelersburg is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Eastern, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Wheelersburg beat Eastern 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
