Basketball Recap: New London Comes Up Short

On Sunday, the New London Whalers didn't have quite enough to beat Springfield Renaissance and fell 46-43. While losing is never fun, the Whalers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 52nd in Connecticut, while Springfield Renaissance are ranked eighth in Massachusetts).

Springfield Renaissance found their leader in sophomore Zi'Yan Wallace, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 18 boards. Wallace's morning made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Sy'Nye Baker was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

New London's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Springfield Renaissance, the win keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New London will square off against East Lyme at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Springfield Renaissance, they will face off against Lee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
