Preview: Union Academy Cardinals vs. South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls
Union Academy is 1-6 against South Stanly since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Union Academy Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls at 6:00 p.m. Union Academy will be strutting in after a win while South Stanly will be coming in after a loss.
Union Academy stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Charlotte Latin with a sharp 70-45 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Union Academy has posted since November 29, 2023.
Union Academy can attribute much of their success to Paisley Boatright, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds, and Ranon Suttle, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boatright has scored all season. Marianna Shine was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Stanly's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 11th straight loss. They took a serious blow against North Rowan, falling 58-2. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Stanly in their matchups with North Rowan: they've now lost seven in a row.
Union Academy is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for South Stanly, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-11.
Things could have been worse for Union Academy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-46 loss to South Stanly in their previous matchup back in February of 2017.
