Softball Recap: Johnston Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Greenwich, Johnston was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Portsmouth Patriots get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 two weeks ago.

Not much got past Haley Boudreau, who gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Portsmouth off the board. Boudreau has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kalyn Foster, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

Johnston's record now sits at 8-3. As for Portsmouth, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-9.

Looking ahead, Johnston will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Toll Gate at 5:00 p.m. As for Portsmouth, they are taking a road trip to take on Burrillville at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
