Basketball Recap: Elijah Melton @Lijxhh's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Legacy over Inlet Grove

Legacy easily dispatched Lincoln Park Academy on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lions fell just short of the Inlet Grove Hurricanes by a score of 66-64 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 434th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 159th).

Legacy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Melton @Lijxhh, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards. Melton @Lijxhh is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 71% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Arena @Jacob.Shifts, who made all 5 shots he took to post 16 points and seven assists.

Leading Inlet Grove to victory were Jorden Black and Robert Brown. Black shot 54% from the field to rack up 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds, while Brown went 10-for-22 on his way to 26 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of the Hurricanes' points. Chandler Metelus was another key player, putting up ten points.

Legacy's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Inlet Grove, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Legacy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-56 defeat against Morningside Academy on the 13th. As for Inlet Grove, they have also already played their next game, a 62-51 victory against Oxbridge Academy on the 15th.
