Softball Recap: Julian Wins Going Away Against Borrego Springs

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times Julian and Borrego Springs have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past the Rams 17-4. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Hailey Bennett made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Bennett was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Avalina Magante-Ortiz was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Charlee Sparks was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

Julian lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Julian's record is now 9-12. As for Borrego Springs, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Julian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Borrego Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Calipatria at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
