Basketball Game Preview: Spurger Pirates vs. Leggett Pirates

Spurger hasn't had much luck against Leggett recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spurger Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Leggett Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Spurger will be strutting in after a victory while Leggett will be coming in after a defeat.

Spurger is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Goodrich: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Spurger blew Goodrich out of the water with a 68-23 final score. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Pirates had established a 35 point advantage.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Leggett's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. 2025 welcomed they with a 62-42 loss courtesy of Hull-Daisetta.

The win (which was Spurger's third in a row) raised their record to 10-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Leggett, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-13.

Spurger came up short against Leggett when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 63-50. Can Spurger avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
