Softball Recap: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Fernley Vaqueros

Churchill County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Fernley Vaqueros on Saturday as the Churchill County Greenwave made off with an 11-1 win. Winning may never get old, but Churchill County sure is getting used to it with their tenth in a row.

Vernita Fillmore made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Fillmore has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Fillmore was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and a triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Walker, who went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taralynn Vershum, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

On Fernley's side, Starr Schennum made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with a home run.

Churchill County is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. As for Fernley, their loss dropped their record down to 24-15.
